Curating Creativity: How Nude Art LA Selects Artists, Models, and Performers for Each Show

Behind every Nude Art LA event is a thoughtful, collaborative process that brings together some of the city’s most inspiring artists, models, and performers. If you’ve ever wondered how we assemble our creative roster—or dreamed of being part of a future show—today’s blog gives you a peek behind the curtain.

The Heart of the Process: Artistic Vision and Community

Nude Art LA was founded to celebrate the beauty of the human form—free from shame, stigma, or exploitation. Our curation process reflects that mission in every detail, ensuring that what happens on our stage and gallery floor is always inclusive, respectful, and artistically vibrant.

When planning a new event, our first priority is to create a space where artists, models, and performers all feel safe to express themselves and collaborate. We look for people who see nudity as a vehicle for self-expression, body positivity, and honest storytelling—whether through visual art, movement, or performance.

How We Select Artists

Our call for artists usually goes out one to two months before each show. We invite painters, photographers, sculptors, mixed media creators, and illustrators to submit samples of their work and a short statement about their artistic philosophy.

What do we look for?

  • Quality and resonance: Art that is technically strong and emotionally compelling.
  • Alignment with our values: Absolutely no erotic or exploitative content—Nude Art LA is about celebration, not sensationalism.
  • Diversity of voices: We showcase a range of perspectives, styles, and backgrounds. The human body is endlessly diverse, and so is our community.

We review each portfolio carefully, considering not just the work, but the story and intention behind it.

How We Select Models

Our approach to model recruitment is just as intentional. We reach out to local figure drawing groups, artists’ collectives, and our own event alumni. Some models volunteer, while others are paid for their time and presence.

What matters most is that every model feels comfortable and empowered. We strictly vet all applicants to ensure their motivation for wanting to be in the show is just as tasteful, non-sexualized, and respectful as the art on display. Many of our models are artists themselves, and all are encouraged to bring their own creative spark to the stage. Our events are welcoming to all body types, ages, and backgrounds—representation matters, and we want everyone in our audience to feel seen.

How We Select Performers

Performance is a core part of the Nude Art LA experience. Our events have featured everything from artistic pole dancers and aerialists to burlesque (sometimes with a clown twist!), live music, stand-up comedy, body paint and shibari demonstrations, naked fashion shows, and more.

We invite performers to submit reels, video clips, or detailed descriptions of their act, along with a statement about how their work aligns with our mission. We look for:

  • Artistic integrity: Performances must celebrate the body in an artistic, non-exploitative way.
  • Originality and creativity: We love acts that surprise, challenge, or inspire our audience.
  • Collaboration: Many of our best moments come from artists and performers working together—think live body painting, interactive dance, or multidisciplinary showcases.

Every performer is interviewed or consulted before the event to ensure their act aligns with our values and the overall tone of the show.

Collaboration and Chemistry

One of the most rewarding parts of curating Nude Art LA is watching connections form between artists, models, performers, and guests. Each event is a unique blend of returning favorites and new faces, and we strive to build a lineup that feels fresh, inspiring, and cohesive.

We work closely with everyone involved in the weeks leading up to each show—sharing ideas, planning logistics, and making sure everyone feels supported. The result? A creative environment where everyone can thrive.
